PRESS RELEASE from Acenor
October 2024

The transition taking place in the global energy sector has driven major changes, and one of them has to do with the role played by the customer. Latin American countries have their own challenges in this area, which have been shared by the associations of large energy users in Chile (ACENOR), Argentina ( AGUERRA ), Colombia (ASOENERGIA), Panama ( AGRANDEL ) and Costa Rica (ACOGRACE), which have joined forces to work together and highlight the role of the electricity customer in the energy transition.

In this context, Latin American associations published a document highlighting the main changes that have occurred in recent times and the importance of addressing them with an eye on energy demand.

Unlike what could be observed in the old paradigm of the passive client, where demand was conceptualized as a mere receiving user, this has changed and today the user is not only active in terms of self-production considerations or efficient management of their energy consumption, but at the same time demands to participate in the definition of energy policy objectives and actions, the document details.

Customers demand a safe, reliable and sustainable energy supply at competitive prices, with quality and low emissions. To achieve an energy supply and infrastructure with these characteristics, there are increasingly more customers who are interested in participating in different ways. In addition, national decarbonisation objectives are only achievable by electrifying a large part of energy consumption. For this to be viable, it is necessary that the renewable and base electricity supply be accessible at competitive prices, the document adds.

Together, these ideas emphasize the importance of addressing the energy transition in a comprehensive manner, with the active participation of consumers, the search for competitive prices and the promotion of cleaner energy sources. This comprehensive approach is essential to forge a more sustainable energy future, concludes the document entitled “Role of the Customer at the center of the Energy Transition” and which can be downloaded here: https://acenor.cl/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Rol-del-Cliente-en-la-Transicion-Energetica-septiembre-2024.pdf
