Liberty Latin America secures tier 3 nod for Costa Rican datacenter

Liberty Latin America reached a key milestone at its Tiribí datacenter in San José, Costa Rica with the granting of a tier 3 certification by the Uptime Institute.

The label refers to the design aspect of the ongoing project.

According to the Uptime Institute, the certification represents high reliability and performance in this phase, paving the way for the Tier Certification of Constructed Facility.

“We are proud to announce that our Tiribí datacenter, phase 1 has successfully obtained tier III design certification from Uptime Institute Professional Services. This achievement is a great testament to the hard work of our technology and operations team,” the telco wrote on social media.

Uptime’s datacenter classifications are divided into four tiers that match a particular business function and define criteria for maintenance, power, cooling and fault capabilities.

Each tier has certifications that look at particular aspects of the project.

The certification secured for Tiribí attests to the functionality and capacity evidenced in the engineering and architectural specifications of the facility’s design, the company says.

According to LLA, it guarantees that the datacenter meets high standards of reliability, availability and energy efficiency.

“This translates into a more efficient operation, with lower energy consumption and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, reaffirming our commitment at Liberty to environmental sustainability,” the company said.

Capacity and technical details of the Tiribí site were not immediately available.

Liberty posted US$152mn in revenues from its Costa Rica operation in Q1, up 18% year-on-year. The unit was the best performing of all LLA’s subsidiaries in Latin America.

Of total Costa Rica revenues, 11% were from B2B services, which include cloud-based datacenter solutions, disaster recovery as-a-service and cybersecurity services provided from its datacenters.
