Liberty launches Voip service with Net2Phone

Bnamericas
Puerto Rican cable operator Liberty Cablevision launched Monday a voice over internet protocol (Voip) service under a six-year agreement with US-based Net2Phone (NASDAQ: NTOP), the company said in a statement. Liberty''s residential telephony service will use Net2Phone''s end-to-end cable Voip service for the 300,000 homes in its franchise footprint. The full launch was preceded by a test introduction with a group of 1,000 consumers. Liberty is offering its customers a choice of five different Voip plans beginning at US$24.95 a month. "There is now a groundswell of cable operators that are beginning to make the decision to outsource telephony, and many believe that we are well situated to provide incremental value as a hosted telephony partner and enabler for these operators," Net2Phone''s Stephen Greenberg was quoted in the statement. Liberty will retain customer ownership, service brand and Tier 1 customer and technical support. Net2Phone will support switching and transport operations and Tier 2 technical support. Trinidad and Tobago''s incumbent telco TSTT contracted with Net2Phone in February to offer similar services to its customers under a two-year agreement.
