Lima power distribution grid receives US$85mn boost

Lima's power distributors invested 317mn soles (US$85mn) in the first half of 2024 to improve and expand the grid in the Peruvian capital, according to the companies’ financials.

The bulk of the spend came from Luz del Sur with 175mn soles and the balance, 143mn soles, from Pluz Energía Perú, formerly known as Enel Distribución Perú.

The latter distributor was renamed after Enel Perú sold its 83.15% stake in Enel Distribución Perú to North Lima Power Grid Holding, a subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid International.

Not including toll clients, Luz’s 1H24 sales rose 6.38% year-on-year to 3,386GWh.

Dispatch to free clients led growth, climbing 42% to 350GWh, followed by industrial clients (up 19% to 169GWh), commercial (up 7% to 1,152GWh) and public lighting (up 1.79% to 176GWh), while toll and residential sales slid 5.6% and 0.39% respectively to 1,661GWh and 1,539GWh.

Pluz’s sales, minus deliveries to toll customers, dipped 1.8% to 3,594GWh in the period.

Supply to toll and low-voltage users rose 6.6% and 0.9%, respectively, to 1,051GWh and 2,343GWh, while sales to medium-voltage and free clients slid 8.9% and 5.5%, respectively, to 331GWh and 920GWh.
