Lima power distributor expanding footprint

Power distributor Luz del Sur, which serves Peru’s capital Lima, submitted an environmental impact declaration (EID) to widen its concession area.

The medium voltage Las Terrazas project entails the construction of a line and three substations in Lurigancho-Chosica.

In the EID filed with the energy and mines ministry, the China Yangtze Power-controlled company said that “along with the growing urban and industrial development in the southern area of Lima, growing demand for electricity supply has also been generated even in areas located outside the Luz del Sur concession area.”

Meanwhile, the ministry granted environmental approval for Luz’s project to build the substation and associated lines to help guarantee reliability and supply to free client Unacem, the country’s largest cement group.

Luz’s concession area covers over 3,500km2, supplying power to more than 1.3mn clients.

The capital’s other power distributor is Pluz Energía Perú.
