LNG projects advance in Brazil

Brazil's Gás Natural Açu received clearance from the infrastructure ministry to implement a private LNG regasification terminal at the Açu port in Rio de Janeiro state.
The firm is engaged in building the biggest gas-fired thermopower complex in Latin America. The project comprises the country's first private use terminal dedicated to LNG, with the capacity to receive 21mn m3/d of natural gas. The area will receive an LNG floating storage and regasification unit, the FSRU BW Magna, which will supply two thermopower plants at the Açu port.
In addition, waterways regulator Antaq also authorized power company Celse to proceed with its regasification project in Sergipe state. The watchdog published on the country's official gazette the go-ahead for the firm to moor an FSRU on Barra dos Coqueiros city and to start its commissioning tests. The unit will supply the 1.5GW Porto de Sergipe thermoelectric plant, due to come online in January 2020.
