Los Pelambres to build US$11.9mn transmission line

Chilean copper miner Los Pelambres has submitted plans to environmental commission Conama for an US$11.9mn power transmission line to its mine in Region IV. The new 200kV double circuit line would run 28km, complementing the existing line between San Isidro and Los Piuquenes, which since mid-2002 has been subject to operating problems, Los Pelambres said. The open cast mine has a 114,000t/d processing rate and last year produced 327,000t of payable copper.
