Lower house approves e-crimes bill

Brazil's lower house of congress has approved an electronic crimes bill, which must now be approved by senate and signed by the presidency, the lower house news service reported. The law punishes crimes such as distribution of electronic viruses, online child pornography, hacking, and cloning of mobile phones. Punishments vary from fines to five years in jail. The bill was originally presented in 1999 by congressman Luiz Piauhylino, of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB).
