Megacable and CUCEA, in collaboration with Huawei, launched the 50Gbps connectivity project at the Centro Universitario de Ciencias Económicos Administrativas (CUCEA) of the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG). With this implementation, it becomes the first space in Latin America to provide connectivity with 50 GPON technology (Gigabit-Capable Passive Optical Network).

The launch was presided over by the rector of CUCEA, Luis Gustavo Padilla Montes; the general director of Megacable, Enrique Yamuni Robles; and the CEO of Huawei, Liu Jiude.

The project, based on advanced technological solutions, aims to contribute to raising the quality of education by providing high-speed connectivity in strategic areas of the campus, such as the Smart Tower, Central Auditorium, Postgraduate Module, Rector's Office, as well as the Cyber Garden where the student community gathers. In this way, efficient, stable and secure internet access is guaranteed in the main areas of the University Center, reinforcing the transformation of CUCEA into a SMART CAMPUS.

One of the key elements of the project is the implementation of Fiber to the Room (FTTR) technology, which allows for an aesthetic installation by taking the fiber to the terminal equipment that provides the services, guaranteeing a robust and high-quality connection in key spaces such as the graduate area and the Smart Tower where the Huawei showroom was installed. The infrastructure will directly benefit 23,123 students, 979 academics and 590 administrative workers, optimizing their connectivity experience and facilitating access to advanced technological tools.

During the event, the interactive showroom was visited, where attendees had the opportunity to experience the speed of 50Gbps. Through real-time tests, users experienced the impact of this technology on activities such as 3D streaming, 4K and 8K displays, as well as Cloud services, demonstrating the capabilities and benefits of the new 50 GPON technology.

The rector of CUCEA mentioned that today a first stage of what could be a great medium and long-term vision to bring technological innovation to more and more people is taking shape. The project being implemented at CUCEA “is a laboratory to rethink not only our own space, but also cities,” and this has been achieved thanks to the fact that we have worked hand in hand with companies such as Megacable and Huawei. “What you are doing goes far beyond what we can see today,” he added.

“At Megacable we are pioneers in implementing 50 GPON technology, which offers connection speeds never seen before. We are preparing to increase the capacity of our network, redefining what it means to be connected, with fast connections at all times and in all places. This technology opens up new opportunities, especially in the educational field, where it will allow for more dynamic and interactive learning experiences. In addition, with WiFi 7, Megacable will take wireless connections to another level, with more than 2 gigabytes per second of capacity,” said Enrique Yamuni Robles.

Megacable and CUCEA, in collaboration with Huawei, integrated 50 GPON technology together with WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 ONU and ONT devices to maximize connectivity. This system not only offers higher speed and a greater number of users and devices connected simultaneously, but also prepares CUCEA's infrastructure to support intensive Cloud Computing.

The project does not alter the internal distribution architecture of CUCEA, since Megacable provides the technology directly to the established access points, ensuring an efficient and uninterrupted installation.

This launch reinforces Megacable, UdeG and Huawei's commitment to technological innovation, offering cutting-edge infrastructure that benefits the CUCEA student, academic and administrative community.
