Megacable to invest in Mérida fiber network
Mexico’s Megacable will invest 242mn pesos (US$14mn) this year to build a 1,180km fiber optics network in Yucatán state capital Mérida.
Megacable arrived in Mérida earlier this year as part of a US$2bn expansion plan to double the company’s size.
The company will also start operations in Villa Hermosa and Acapulco, among others, CEO Enrique Yamuni told BNamericas in February.
In Mérida, Megacable offers internet, telephony, pay TV and other ICT services. To company claims to generate 840 jobs in the city this year and up to 1,000 in 2024.
Additionally, Megacable will invest 549mn pesos in building a 3,000km fiber optics network to cover 670,000 households in Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche and Tabasco. The current network reaches 357,000 homes passed, or 36% of the Peninsula’s total.
