Metro de Quito eyes Q4 commercial start-up of US$2bn line No. 1

Although a specific date is still pending, Metro de Quito's US$2bn line No. 1 could start commercial operations in Q4, mayor Pabel Muñoz told a local television channel.

Initially, commercial operations were scheduled to start April 17. But that day, the last warm-up phase started instead, involving free trips for three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening, although not all stations are open.

Last November, the consortium formed by France’s Transdev and Metro de Medellín signed the operational contract with Metro de Quito.

The operator has invited 50 international specialists to provide operational assistance, hired 150 people who’ll receive technical training and developed contingency and technical plans together with the city.
