Mexican firms plan to deploy 1mn Sigfox meters in 10 years

Mexican technology company WaterMeter Corp signed an MOU (in photo) with WND, the operator in the country of the IoT network of France’s Sigfox, and UnaBiz, the new owner of the French company, to deploy smart water meters with 0G technology from Sigfox.

In April, UnaBiz, the IoT service provider and operator of Sigfox in Singapore and Taiwan, emerged as the new owner of the Toulouse-based company following bankruptcy proceedings.

Under the agreement, the companies plan to deploy up to one million water meters throughout Mexico over the next 10 years.

“We are confident that, together with WaterMeter Corp, we will deliver water metering solutions that will help Mexican municipalities face the challenges of water scarcity, non-technical losses, and water leakage,” said UnaBiz CEO Marco Mendoza in a press release.

Currently, the Sigfox 0G network covers more than 60% of the Mexican population.

UnaBiz has already deployed close to 2mn water meters globally.
