Mexican govt pledges one high-impact infra project in every state

Mexico’s federal government will provide funds to carry out at least one high-impact infrastructure project in every one of the country's 32 states during the term of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), which ends in 2024.

A group of governors of the right-leaning opposition PAN party told local press that the president made the promise during a meeting with them last week, which was confirmed by AMLO (pictured) at his press conference on Friday.

“[The state governments] will bring their proposals next week, to define the type of works to be funded and whether the funding these works will receive will be for one year or multi-year,” AMLO said.

The works eligible for funding will be those considered the most strategically important and beneficial for the population.

The decision on which projects will receive federal funds is expected to be made in about a month's time, local paper Milenio reported.
