Mexican state looks to tender Tijuana-Tecate rail link in August

The first tender for construction of the 2.8bn-peso (US$125mn) Tijuana-Tecate interurban rail link in Mexico’s Baja California state is expected to be launched in August, according to state officials.
The 28km line will have nine stations, connecting the San Ysidro-Tijuana land port of entry on the US border with the Ejido Maclovio Rojas municipality in Tijuana city.
State governor Jaime Bonilla announced the project in May and said it would be financed by the municipalities. He also added the project to his list of priorities for 2020.
Baja California’s infrastructure and urban development ministry Sidurt launched in February a restricted tender, inviting only three participants, to award the project’s transportation reorganization and projection study, according to public records on government transparency site Inai.
Nolte de México won the contract in March for almost 4mn pesos, requiring it to submit the study by May 8.
More details about the project are expected to be released soon.
