Mexico and the US report progress on new port of entry

Mexico and the US are planning a new border crossing between Anapra in Chihuahua state and Sunland Park in New Mexico.
Planning for the crossing started years ago, but authorities from both sides met Wednesday and announced major progress, according to a press release by Juárez city hall.
The next step involves the finance ministry (SHCP) adding the project to its investment portfolio so capex can be estimated, Juárez’s planning and research director Roberto Mora Palacios was quoted as saying.
"We are already very advanced on the Mexican side, we have had several work meetings with [SHCP], the infrastructure, communications and transportation ministry [SICT] and the foreign ministry, to whom we have been delivering all the information they requested," he said.
Also, the port of entry has passed the feasibility stage in both counties, said Arturo de las Fuentes Hernández, who coordinates the project.
In July 2021, Sunland Park mayor Javier Perea told news site Border Report that the project was under review by various agencies and that presidential permits remained pending in both countries.
The site also said the US State Department received Sunland Park’s request for the infrastructure and passed it to the White House for evaluation.
