Mexico City airport to award contract in May to prepare runway works
The administration of Benito Juárez international airport (AICM) in Mexico City is planning to award a contract in May to draw up an executive plan to make improvements to runway 05R-23L adjacent to terminal No. 2.
Bids are due to be received on April 26 and a winner is expected to be picked on May 2, according to the tender process (LO-09-KDN-009KDN002-N-2-2023), published on procurement site Compranet.
The contract requires six elements that are divided into civil and electrical works. All are meant to identify the flaws and damage on the runway, although the executive project could end up suggesting other construction works such as access roads if necessary, according to the documents.
The contract requirements include a topographic analysis of the 4km, 45m wide runway, a study with geo-radar equipment, analysis of lighting and a maintenance plan, among others.
The plan should be completed within 120 days after signing the contract.
AICM invited three participants to bid in the contest. These are Mario Martínez Castro, Supyc and Evaluación Integral de Obras Civiles.
The country’s most important and busiest airport has undergone a series of upgrades following various problems seen last year that were attributed to poor planning during the construction of terminal No. 2 in 2005-08, in addition to a lack of maintenance and investments over the last decade.
