Mexico City unveils waterworks investment for Xochimilco
The government of Mexico City will invest 56mn pesos (US$2.93mn) to carry out waterworks in the Xochimilco district of the Mexican capital, where infrastructure was seriously affected by the September 19 earthquake.
The funds will be used to carry out various different initiatives, including the construction of a new sewage collector on the so-called Chalco canal, among other works, local mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera said during his daily news conference Wednesday.
In addition, local authorities will provide 12mn pesos to the district's Chinampa area, which is home to man-made canals surrounding agricultural plots. The funds will serve to carry out bathymetry and topography studies, land leveling and other works on canals located in the town of San Gregorio Atlapulco.
Another 29mn will be used to purchase water equipment, rehabilitate banks and install dikes at the agricultural plots of the aforementioned town, Mancera said.
