Mexico launches energy efficiency program

Mexico's energy ministry and science and technology council Conacyt, in collaboration with the University of California, have launched a program to fund energy efficiency projects.

The program will promote scientific research, regulation and industrial development for the creation of technologies that will reduce energy demand in buildings, municipal facilities and transport systems, according to a ministry statement.

Mexico will contribute 200mn pesos (US$10.6mn) to the program, the first stage of which will be to determine cities' energy demand in order to incorporate measures to reduce their CO2 footprint.
