Mexico looks to expand and modernize Yucatán's Puerto de Progreso

Mexico's Yucatán state and the navy ministry (Semar) signed a long-term agreement for the expansion and modernization of the deepwater port Puerto de Progreso.
The document establishes the bases of collaboration between Semar, the state government and port administrator Asipona. Proposed investment or other details were not provided.
"The modernization of the port will allow the arrival of vessels with greater draft, increasing operational capacity and facilitating new investment opportunities," the Yucatán government said in a statement.
"This agreement not only represents a great opportunity for our port, but is also a testimony of the shared commitment by the federal and state governments to promote the infrastructure that will allow Yucatán to advance towards new goals in international trade and job creation," said governor Joaquín Díaz Mena.
With the expansion, Yucatán will reinforce its position as a key logistics node in the Mexican southeast and will strengthen its global connectivity, he said. "The expansion and modernization of the port of Progreso will consolidate its operational capacity, favoring commercial exchange and positioning Yucatán as a key reference in international maritime trade," Díaz Mena added.
