Mexico looks to tender 2.5GHz band in Q3
Mexico plans to launch a tender for 130MHz in the 2.5GHz band in the third quarter of this year, according to telecom regulator IFT.
IFT said it is carrying out an impact assessment on the shared network, which was awarded last November.
The regulator underscored that the authorities will seek negotiations with the US to establish a sharing mechanism for spectrum in the 2.5GHz band in the border states and replace the current agreement if necessary.
The schedule presented in the watchdog's 2017 work plan also indicates that IFT will have completed the revision of the so-called asymmetric measures imposed on the telecom sector's dominant players this quarter. These are a set of measures for companies with market participation exceeding 50% in order to level the playing field.
IFT's work plan comprises 66 strategic projects, several studies and research projects, and 30 periodic reports.
