Mexico miners unaffected by deadly quake

Miners operating in central Mexico were unaffected by Tuesday's deadly earthquake.

More than 200 people have been confirmed dead following the 7.1 quake, the most deadly in more than 30 years, which caused major damage in Mexico City, Mexico state, Morelos and Puebla states. Deaths were also reported in Guerrero state.

Visual inspections at Torex Gold's El Limón-Guajes gold mine in Guerrero state showed no damage to the plant, pits or underground workings, VP investor relations Gabriela Sánchez told BNamericas in an emailed statement.

While the quake was felt in the area, all staff and their families were contacted and are fine, she added.

Highest seismic standards were followed in the plant construction and that of nearby villages that the company relocated a couple of years ago, Sánchez said. "It's such a tragedy and our hearts go to the families of the victims."

The situation was similar at Leagold Mining's neighboring Los Filos gold asset. Initial reports on Tuesday showed no damage or injuries, VP investor relations Meghan Brown told BNamericas.

Telson Resources' Campo Morado polymetallic mine in the state was also unaffected, along with its Mexico City office and Tahuehueto gold project in Durango state, the company said in a statement.

In neighboring Morelos state, no damage was reported at Alamos Gold's Esperanza project.

"The project is pre-development so there is no infrastructure at site that could have been impacted," VP investor relations Scott Parsons told BNamericas.

The quake does not appear to have damaged facilities at IMPACT Silver's Zacualpan operations in Mexico state, the company said in a release, with post-quake inspections currently being carried out.

Mexico's miners were also unaffected by an 8.1 earthquake off the country's southern coast earlier in September, which killed dozens and left thousands homeless.
