Mexico power auction: Ministry amends list of approved bids

Mexico's energy ministry (Sener) amended a list of offers that had been placed by bidders in the country's first electric power auction on Tuesday.

The final results were due to be announced on Thursday (Mar 31.)

Bids from 11 companies have been officially accepted for a total of 16 energy generation projects, the ministry said.

On Tuesday, the country's energy control center (Cenace), in charge of the bidding process, had said seven companies had placed 11 bids for long-term power contracts.

One bid, however, has since been rejected after it was discovered it did not comply with the bidding rules, Sener said in a press release.

Local newspaper El Financiero said the rejected bid was from Gestamp Wind México.

The bids now deemed successful are from Aldesa Energías Renovables, Consorcio Energía Limpia 2010, Energía Renovable de la Península, Enel Green Power México, Energía Renovable del Istmo II, Jinkosolar Investment, Recurrent Energy Mexico Development, Photoemeris Sustentable, Sol de Insurgentes, SunPower Systems México, and Vega Solar 1.

The projects being bid for are 11 solar parks and five wind farms.
