Mexico’s JECA Railway to build US$200mn Tijuana-Rosarito rail link
Mexican firm JECA Railway is set to start works on the 21.6km Skytren Baja passenger rail link between Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito, after Baja California state awarded it a concession to operate the project last year.
The electric train will use an elevated track from the San Ysidro port of entry between San Diego and Tijuana and extend down to the coast, governor Marina del Pilar Ávila said during the project presentation on Sunday.
The line will have eight stations and be fully financed by JECA, she said. JECA will invest 3.6bn pesos (US$189mn) during the 30-year concession, according to local news site Zeta Tijuana.
JECA Railway, owned by Jesús Alfredo Acosta Gómez, was founded in 2020 and belongs to a conglomerate that includes Soluciones Marítimas Jeca, Accal Grupo Industrial, Kaje Tecnología de México, Gaal Petroquímica Mexicana, Jeca Tecnología and JECA Mobility y Comunicaciones y Transportes, according to Forbes México.
