Microsoft launches branded PC, software portal

Bnamericas
Microsoft Brasil has invested 1.6mn reais (US$550,000) to launch an e-commerce portal to promote the sale of branded personal computers with its pre-installed operating software, the company said in a statement earlier this week. Microsoft has brought seven local PC manufacturers on board, ACBR, Evadin, Megaware, Novadata, Positivo Informatica, Semp Toshiba and StarComputer, while iLogística is providing infrastructure support. The portal, called "Portal do PC de Marca" (Portal for Brand PCs) targets IT consultants, integrators, resellers and small and mid-sized companies. Many small companies prefer to assemble their own computers than buy more expensive brand equipment, the statement said. Brazilian credit company Finasa will provide financing for buyers at interest rates of about 3% a month. On the web: http://www.pcdemarca.com.br
