Statement from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications of Paraguay
The Government of Paraguay today officially inaugurated the Agroindustrial Corridors of the Western Region, known as the “Milk Route”. This project, executed by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), covers 188 kilometers of improved roads and promises to transform the logistics of the dairy and productive sector in the Paraguayan Chaco.
During the opening ceremony at Campo Aceval, Pdte. Hayes, the Minister of MOPC, Eng. Claudia Centurión, stressed the importance of this project for the future of the country. “The development of Paraguay will come from the development of Chaco,” she said. She also pointed out that this is just one of the many projects that will be delivered to the next administrations, highlighting the long-term vision behind the initiative, which in this case benefits the production of 7 million liters of milk annually and directly impacts the improvement of the quality of life of more than 40,000 people, including 4,800 indigenous people.
Project created in 2013
In another part of her speech, Minister Centurión recalled that the project began in 2013, when it was included among the priority works under the “Turnkey” law. A key moment was the agreement signed in 2017 between the MOPC and the Chortitzer Cooperative, which accelerated its development by involving the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Job creation and new markets
For his part, President Santiago Peña referred to several key aspects of the project. First, he emphasized that job creation is the best social policy and that this project will significantly boost job opportunities in the region. He also mentioned that the new route will prepare Chaco for an increase in truck traffic to Pacific ports, improving logistics and boosting exports through the Bioceanic Corridor.
