This Minem release was published using machine translation.
The total production of electrical energy registered at the national level at the end of July 2022, including the Isolated Systems and the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) of Peru, amounted to 4,988 gigawatt hours (GWh), which meant an increase of 5 .2% compared to the same month in 2021, reported the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM).
According to the report called "Main indicators of the electricity sector at the national level", prepared by the General Directorate of Electricity of the MINEM, of the total registered, 4,837 GWh (97%) was generated for the electricity market and 151 GWh (3%) It was for their own use, that is, what was required by industrial companies (mining, sugar, oil, among others).
This increase in electricity production is mainly based on the economic reactivation of the various industries that operate in the country, and that have been progressively overcoming the difficult situation they went through due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the last two years, they explained. MINEM specialists.
Regarding the source of electricity generation, the hydroelectric plants produced 2,072 GWh, that is, 2% less than what was produced in July 2021; and on the side of the thermal units that use natural gas, in this month of the year they registered 2,457 GWh, that is, 7% more than what was generated in the same period last year.
Regarding generation with non-conventional renewable energy resources (solar, wind, bagasse and biogas), in July it accumulated a production of 280 GWh, that is, 6.1% higher than the figure registered in the same period of 2021.
