The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Iris Cárdenas, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Expansion of the Gasoline Production Units - RLP 53, at the La Pampilla Refinery, which will strengthen the production of less polluting and low-sulfur fuels.

Cárdenas Pino stated that, within the framework of the National Energy Policy of Peru 2010-2040, the objective is to develop an energy sector with minimal environmental impact and sustainability, as well as to strengthen the institutionality of the energy sector, promoting the development and use of clean energy and technologies with low polluting emissions, avoiding the biodegradation of resources.

"The implementation of this project marks a milestone in the production of less polluting and efficient fuels in Peru, contributing to the safety and sustainability of the plants, helping to guarantee the safe supply of quality fuels, reducing the exposure to imported gasoline," said the Vice Minister.

He called on those present to continue working together for the good of the population and to improve their quality of life, with a vision of a more prosperous energy future for all, bringing sustainable fuel to every region of the country.

In turn, Julián de la Calle, Director of Refining at Repsol Peru, said that the company has invested in improvements since 1996 to make the La Pampilla Refinery safer and more environmentally friendly, thereby ensuring the supply of fuel for all Peruvians.

"The latest major investment has been more than S/ 160 million, allowing us to expand the four gasoline units and increase our production by 20 percent. This means that we are capable of producing more than 18 thousand barrels of regular and premium gasoline per day only for the Peruvian market," he said.

Previously, MINEM authorities toured the La Pampilla Refinery plant, which has a refining capacity of 117 thousand barrels per day, representing more than half of the country's total refining volume.
