MINEM installs Working Group that will design the National Energy Policy by 2050

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Romulo Mucho, participated in the Installation Session of the Sectoral Working Group to design and formulate the National Energy Policy proposal for 2050, with the presence of the Vice Ministers of Electricity, Jaime Luyo; and Hydrocarbons, Julio Poquioma, and their respective technical teams.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 107-2024-MINEM/DM, this technical team is in charge of designing and formulating the National Energy Policy for 2050, in order to ensure the supply of energy, protect the consumer, promote the competitiveness of the national economy and reduce the negative environmental impact of the use and consumption of energy.

Minister Rómulo Mucho highlighted the importance of the work of this team of specialists because he considered that it will allow us to “strengthen the country's energy security, have a diversified energy matrix in the future with emphasis on renewable energies and energy efficiency, with competitive prices, in order to promote the national industry and improve the well-being of Peruvians.”

It should be noted that the development of the National Energy Policy includes the use of various energy sources, which involve activities for their exploration, exploitation, production, transformation, transportation, storage, distribution and marketing, in order to satisfy the demands of the population and their needs. economic activities, since energy is key to national development and requires policies that ensure its efficient, safe and sustainable use, for a fair energy transition.

For this reason, the General Directorate of Energy Efficiency of the MINEM, which is in charge of the Technical Secretariat, indicates that the Working Group will address issues that contribute to short, medium and long-term energy security.

During the installation session of this Working Group, the head of the General Directorate of Energy Efficiency of the MINEM, José Meza, also participated; as well as the heads of the General Directorate of Electricity, General Directorate of Environmental Affairs of Electricity, of the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons, the General Directorate of Environmental Affairs of Hydrocarbons, among other MIMEM officials.
