The Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho Mamani, participated in the closing event of the project “Analysis of the conditions of the regulatory and political framework in Peru for the production of Green Hydrogen”, executed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) , through the General Directorate of Energy Efficiency, with the support of the German Cooperation implemented by the GIZ in Peru.
He highlighted that the purpose of this project was to promote the exchange of knowledge and the preparation of studies to evaluate the regulatory framework for the competitive production of Green Hydrogen in our country, as well as to identify the associated technical requirements and need for efficient use of resources such as energy. renewables and water.
“Based on the transfer of knowledge, complementary technical information has been prepared for the development of the preliminary proposal for a national roadmap, prepared by the MINEM, which seeks to promote the development of potential Green Hydrogen and its derived products such as synthetic fuels,” he noted during the event.
He added that an important point was the preparation of regulatory proposals, based on what has been developed by other countries, in order to develop guidelines that will allow greater clarity on the challenges that Green Hydrogen production projects are facing as an energy vector.
For his part, the general director of Energy Efficiency of the MINEM, José Meza Segura, pointed out that the preliminary proposal of a National Green Hydrogen Roadmap allows establishing a long-term vision that contributes to energy security by taking advantage of the energy potential. renewable energy from Peru.
The Roadmap considers that in 2024 a regulatory instrument to promote Green Hydrogen will be developed; In 2025, the National Energy Policy will be updated including this element and standards and technical regulations will be established for its provision; In 2028, green hydrogen refueling pilots for electric vehicles will be developed.
Likewise, it is proposed that in 2030 4 pilot projects of 255.68 MW be launched in Callao, Piura, Matarani and Ica, as well as pilots for the application of Green Hydrogen in public transportation; and that by 2040 Peru will be able to export said energy.
The Vice Minister of Electricity of the MINEM, Jaime Luyo, also participated in the event; the person in charge of Cooperation on urbanization issues at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lima, Michael Eichholtz; and the president of the APEC 2024 Senior Officials Meeting, Ambassador Carlos Vásquez Corrales.
