The transfer of resources generated by mining activity to regional and local governments, which include the Mining Canon, Legal and Contractual Mining Royalties, Validity and Penalty Law, added up to the month of January of this year an amount greater than S / 1072 million, according to the Mining Statistical Bulletin of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

According to the official figures and disaggregating the amounts, it is specified that more S / 737 million were transferred for the Canon concept, for Mining Royalties figures that exceed S / 333 million, and for Validity and Penalty Rights, an amount higher than S / 863 thousand.

In a context marked by the crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and its negative effects, transfers to the regions will allow the economic reactivation of the country, in order to implement projects that manage to reduce social gaps and consequently reduce the level poverty in places where extractive economic activity takes place.

The report, prepared by the General Directorate for Mining Promotion and Sustainability, indicates that among the regions that managed to attract more resources is Áncash (more than S / 314 million) in first place with a participation of 29.4%, while in second place and Third are the regions of Tacna (more than S / 113 million) and Ica (more than S / 98 million) with shares of 10.6% and 9.2% of the total, respectively.

In the relationship, La Libertad continues, which received more than S / 91 million in said period, Arequipa with more than S / 89 million, Moquegua with more than S / 86 million, and Cusco with a figure higher than S / 71 million, among other regions.

It should be noted that at the end of 2020 and despite the pandemic generated by the coronavirus, the economic transfers generated by mining activity amounted to S / 4,164 million, representing 90% of the total transferred during 2019 for the same activity.
