Load demand in Peru from new projects and expansions, primarily in the mining sector, is forecast to hit 32MW, 125MW and 273MW in 2024, 2025 and 2026, respectively.
The outlook corresponds to studies submitted by power grid coordinator COES to energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin to determine rates for May 2024-April 2025.
Annual electricity use from the special loads segment in the three-year period is projected to reach 209GWh, 875GWh and 1,474GWh.

Monthly maximum demand and offtake through September hit records of 7,606MW in April and 5,106GWh in March, BNamericas data shows.
Year | Maximum Demand (MW) | Annual Consumption (GWh) |
2024 | 7,887 | 60,157 |
2025 | 8,201 | 62,688 |

Osinergmin will hold a public hearing on November 28 where COES’ generation and transmission subcommittees will present the studies, which are available in the Documents box in the top right corner.
A draft rate proposal is scheduled to be released in March.
The watchdog also has a process underway to approve plans submitted by owners of complementary and secondary transmission systems for 2025-29.
