The Minister of Public Works and Communications , Eng. Claudia Centurión, announced at an event held in Concepción the awarding of a historic project for Paraguay's road infrastructure. Route PY05 , which connects Concepción with Pozo Colorado, will be the first in the country built with concrete pavement, covering more than 90 kilometers of road.
During the emotional event, headed by the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and other authorities, the minister highlighted the importance of this undertaking as a joint effort. “This section is the section of relief, hope and peace,” she said, emphasizing that the work will not only connect territories, but will also generate opportunities for the local community.
Winning bids
The signing of resolution No. 2110/24 for the award of the work took place in the city of Concepción, resulting in the Avanza Chaco Consortium ( Tecnoedil SA Constructora, Ocho SA and Construpar SA) being the winner of Lot A, for an amount of G.327,332,738,650, while Ecomipa SA will be in charge of Lot B for G. 283,863,737,169.
The minister said she hopes that the advance payment to the contractors awarded the contract will be made this year so that the works can start in 2025.
Use of concrete and job creation
President Peña stressed the importance of this road infrastructure for the economic development of the region, emphasizing that it is not only about building a road, but also about creating local employment and strengthening the cement industry in the department of Concepción. “The cement that will be used for this work will come from our own region, which will generate more sources of employment and increase local income,” he said.
Peña also highlighted the durability and lower maintenance of rigid pavement compared to other alternatives, noting that “it is pointless to open a road that is soon full of potholes.”
Strategic project
This initiative, financed by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean ( CAF ), is divided into two strategic lots: Lot A, of 53.3 km, and Lot B, of 36.2 km, totaling 90.2 kilometers of rehabilitation. Each lot will have an execution period of 20 months from the signing of the contract, marking a significant advance in the country's road infrastructure.
