Minister Romulo Mucho announces construction of two 600 MW hydroelectric plants
This Minem release was published using machine translation.
From Arequipa, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Romulo Mucho, stated that the second stage of the Majes Sihuas project includes the construction of two hydroelectric plants that would generate 600 Megawatts, which would consolidate energy security in Peru.
The ministerial delegation led by the president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, flew over the areas of the hydroenergy megaproject, as part of the government's mission to reactivate the economy.
"Arequipa is capable of leading this reactivation. We are at the limit, we need to generate more energy, we have two hydraulic projects and two wind projects that are going to come into operation this year with a power of 507 megawatts, with an investment of US$530 million," remarked the head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM).
“All regions need resources and resources do not fall from the sky, therefore, all economic activities have to be reactivated, because in this way the enormous gaps that exist in Peru can be closed,” he said.
Likewise, he highlighted the vision of the regional governor of Arequipa who, in the meeting he held with the Executive, presented a portfolio of 16 projects, of which there are 5 linked to the mining and energy sector.
Among the series of activities, Mucho held a working meeting with the electrical distribution company SEAL, in which he expressed his commitment to collaborate closely to close the gaps in electrification of human settlements and rural areas.
The main objective of this joint work is to guarantee that more than 150 thousand users have better development opportunities, he noted.
The head of MINEM emphasized that all ministries linked to productive sectors have “the mission of generating more resources, more employment for all Arequipa residents and all Peruvians.”
