Ministry of Energy and Mines addresses energy crisis with strategic measures
This Ministry of Energy and Mines release was published using machine translation.
A web page will be implemented, in Beta version, for citizen consultation on the programming and rescheduling of power outages. Additionally, three offers from the private sector for the acquisition of energy generating ships are analyzed, responsibly and technically, through transparent public selection processes.
In response to the emergency declaration in force since April 16, 2024, the Minister of Energy and Mines (e), Roberto Luque, offered an update on the actions taken to address the current energy crisis in the country.
Minister Luque highlighted the implementation of decisive measures, including the streamlining of a website to provide real-time information on power outages. Likewise, market studies are being evaluated to analyze technical offers and facilitate the participation of the private sector in new energy contracting processes.
Despite these efforts, the Mazar hydroelectric plant continues to be in the recovery process, which indicates that the situation of the energy system has not yet been completely resolved. Consequently, the implementation of power outage schedules throughout the country will continue.
In addition, the increase in energy generated by the rains in the Coca Codo Sinclair reservoir has allowed the reconnection of energy. The Ministry works in collaboration with the Agency for the Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources to implement new regulations within a period of 15 days. This regulation will facilitate the issuance of new resolutions for natural gas and solar energy import projects with support from the private sector, as well as the creation of a new regulation that allows CNEL and CELEC to make strategic alliances with private companies and contract new energy systems. .
The climate crisis and years of lack of investment have exacerbated the energy situation in the country. The commitment of the Ministry of Energy and Mines is to reduce and eliminate the current energy crisis, guaranteeing the continuity of this essential public service, in line with the principles of efficiency and effectiveness in public administration.
