Ministry of energy and mines says inaugurations ratify commitment to transform the electrical system
This Ministry of Energy and Mines release was published using machine translation.
The Minister of Energy and Mines (MEM), Antonio Almonte, when participating last Friday in the inauguration of works to benefit the energy system in the Valverde and Montecristi provinces, affirmed that with these initiatives the Dominican Government confirms its commitment to transform the electricity sector .
The inaugurations, headed by President Luis Abinader, began with the commissioning of the Esperanza Solar Park, in the Valverde province, whose project was promoted by the generating company EGE Haina, with an investment of US$ 94 million and an installed capacity of 90 MW. The plant will generate an estimated 200,000 MWh annually, destined to supply the demand of more than 80,000 homes per year.
Almonte stressed that the company EGE Haina is the pioneer in the introduction of renewable energy in the country, and that this type of energy from a clean source constitutes the national energy future, adding to the Government's goal of having the participation of 25 percent of renewable energies in the electricity matrix in the year 2025.
The head of the MEM specified that this project is part of the government's strategy to promote and support the introduction of renewable energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
After assessing the importance of this project for the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) as positive, engineer Almonte thanked and recognized this energy corporation for joining the efforts of the current management to strengthen the energy matrix with sustainable energy and friendly to environment.
The Esperanza Solar Park is made up of a total of 166,670 bifacial solar panels that allow receiving solar radiation to produce energy through its two faces. In turn, the panels have a system of solar position trackers that rotate 104 degrees depending on the displacement of the sun, to guarantee a better use of the irradiation of the area, which is higher than the average for the Dominican Republic.
Inauguration of Montecristi energy projects
Subsequently, Minister Almonte traveled to the Manzanillo municipality, Montecristi province, and participated in the inauguration of the corporate building, the control station and the Energía 2000 gas pipeline section, in the Manzanillo Power Land complex, which will contribute to job creation and the development in the region.
In this sense, he valued the interest shown by the private sector in carrying out these electrical works, reaffirming his confidence in the government headed by President Abinader.
"With a total investment of US$ 587.400 million, we are erecting this thermoelectric plant with a production capacity of up to 414 MW, using natural gas as a power source and steam turbine mechanics of the highest international standards, this linked to a design and set of techniques that allow the possibility of using other renewable resources, such as hydrogen, to produce energy with life, in a few words: clean, safe and efficient energy, ”said the minister.
In addition, he added: “this purpose of providing solutions to the challenges of the electricity sector finds its raison d'être in the opportunity to unify forces between the public and private sectors to ensure an efficient, constant and sustainable electricity service. This is how we consolidated a solid alliance with the public sector, working together to carry out this value project for the province, the North zone and the entire Dominican Republic.”
During the development of the event, there were multimedia presentations with testimonials that made known a notion of teamwork among the workers, as well as the assessment and criteria on the impact that this initiative has had on the lives of the townspeople and personalities who in one way or another otherwise are linked to this project.
This project has a totally private investment, financed by direct investment of a group of partners, who under a shared vision have met under the company Energía 2000, SA, to channel the materialization of this vision.
Executives from Energía 2000 SA were present at the event, as well as investors, officials linked to the energy sector, provincial authorities, media directors, and special guests.
While Minister Almonte was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Energy, Rafael Gómez; Alfonso Rodríguez, Vice Minister of Savings and Energy Efficiency, and Fausto Pérez Vice Minister of Energy Security and Infrastructure.
