Ministry opens first section of Kitson Town water system

Jamaica's housing, environment, water and local government minister, Horace Chang, has inaugurated the first section of the Kitson Town potable water supply system in St Catherine parish. The project, which required a total US$5mn, was carried out by French engineering firm Vinci Construction, according to state news agency JIS. Work involved the construction of two storage tanks in Kitson Town and Paul Mountain, two booster pumping stations, 8km of distribution pipelines and 49km of transport pipelines. When complete, the system will provide potable water to some 25,000 residents in Wakefield, Spring Vale, Mendez Hill, Point Hill, Duxes, Guanaboa Vale and Kitson Town. The initiative falls under the National Water Commission's ( NWC) J$17bn (US$211mn) Jamaica water supply improvement program (JWSIP).
