Mobile growth slows to 5% in Q3

Colombian mobile operators Comcel and BellSouth ended the third quarter with 5.5 million users, up 5% compared to the second quarter, local daily Portafolio reported. America Movil (NYSE: AMX) subsidiary Comcel has 3.66 million users, compared to BellSouth's 1.85 million. Growth was slower than the second quarter, when the number of subscribers rose 16% from 1Q03. Year-on-year the third quarter total represents a 35% increase on 3Q02. Of the 716,572 additional users that signed up for service during the quarter, 277,405 were first-time users.
