By Osiptel
This is a machine translation of the original press release issued in Spanish.
The monthly average of mobile internet data traffic from mobile phones stood at 18.78 gigabytes (GB) in the third quarter of 2024, double that reported in the same period in 2020 (9.20 GB), according to the computer portal PUNKU (https://punku.osiptel.gob.pe) of the Private Investment Supervisory Agency in Telecommunications (OSIPTEL). Compared to the third quarter of 2023, the registered data consumption is 13.86% higher.
Meanwhile, as of September 2024, 31.35 million mobile lines accessed the mobile internet service, 2.84% more than that recorded in the same month of the previous year.
According to Osiptel's technical analysis, mobile internet data consumption has been growing faster than the number of mobile lines accessing the internet, as a result of the increased demand for this type of service.
Bitel increased its participation in mobile data traffic
In terms of mobile internet data traffic in the third quarter of 2024, Claro had a market share of 36.96%, followed by Entel (22.80%) and Movistar (20.34%), companies that saw their share reduced compared to the third quarter of 2023. Bitel's share reached 19.88%.
Participation regarding phones that access mobile internet
As of September 2024, the Claro company has the largest market share (35.21%) in the number of mobile phones that accessed mobile internet, followed by Movistar with 23.95%, Entel (21.72%), Bitel (18.97%), and other companies (0.15%).
