MOP of Panama held a prior meeting on approval of the PPP modality prequalification of the West Pan-American Highway

The Ministry of Public Works ( MOP ) carried out the prior meeting and approval on the bases of the prequalification of the project called "Rehabilitation, Improvement and Maintenance of the West Pan-American Highway" (CPO), structured under the modality of Public-Private Association (APP) and in which more than 30 companies participated.

The objective of the meeting was to clarify doubts, gather questions and comments to guarantee the participation of potential stakeholders under equal conditions, as well as clarify any aspect of the prequalification bases and other documents published or delivered.

During the prequalification process, natural and legal persons, national and foreign, either individually or as a consortium, who meet the requirements and are interested in participating in the process, must demonstrate their financial capacity, technical experience and capacity. according to the criteria established in the prequalification bases, approved by the Governing Entity of the PPP Regime.

Those interested in the project may submit their proposals to prequalify until Monday, September 4, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., in the Public Events room of the MOP Contract Administration Directorate, located in Building 810, ground floor, Paseo Andrews – Albrook, Panama City.

The project consists of a length of 206 kilometers from La Chorrera to Santiago, in the provinces of Panama Oeste and Veraguas, respectively. It is structured in two sections: the first stretches from El Espino to the city of Penonomé (100 kilometers), and the second from Penonomé to Santiago (106 kilometers).

It is estimated that the cost of the work is 300 million balboas and will benefit approximately 450 thousand people.

For this project, the MOP had the technical advice of the Inter-American Development Bank ( IDB ) for its structuring.

Among the works to be carried out are the rehabilitation of the roadway of the existing folder, adaptation, improvement and cleaning of the drains, installation of horizontal and vertical signage, improvements in the road with the implementation of returns at specific points along the alignment, installation of lighting, operation centers, road assistance services, among others.

The rehabilitation of the West Pan-American Highway is the second project of the Performance Standards Maintenance Program, which includes the improvement, rehabilitation, and maintenance of 2,000 kilometers of roads and highways nationwide, which the MOP seeks to implement under the PPP modality.
