MOPC awards strategic project “Graneros del Sur” for more than USD 15 million

The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Eng. Claudia Centurión, signed today in the presence of departmental authorities the award of the works for the rehabilitation of the emblematic route " Graneros del Sur ", in the department of Itapúa, a project valued at more than USD 15 million that will be financed with funds from the World Bank .

This initiative, structured in two lots, will be carried out by Paraguayan companies with a recognized track record in the road construction sector.

The winning bids

According to Resolution No. 2275/24, Lot 1 went to the Southern Consortium ( EDB Construcciones and Constructora Asunción SA) for G. 56,371,242,940 and Lot 2 went to Concret Mix SA for G. 57,250,322,966.

The works, scheduled to begin in January 2025, connect the towns of Carmen del Paraná, Fram, La Paz and Capitán Miranda, directly benefiting more than 35,000 inhabitants of the department of Itapúa.

“We are very happy because we are going to start this work with machines on the track in January 2025,” said Minister Centurión during the announcement. The head of the MOPC also announced other projects for the department, including the completion of the evaluation of the offers for the Naranjito-Santa Inés section, with an investment of USD 20 million, whose works will also begin at the beginning of 2025.

The deputy for Itapúa, Sebastián Remesowski, expressed his gratitude towards the government team: “On behalf of all of us who live in this beautiful red land, we thank the minister, President Santiago Peña and the entire technical team for bringing so much progress to our area.”
Senator Hernán Rivas, after mentioning the strategic value of the route between Carmen del Paraná and Capitán Miranda, also thanked President Santiago Peña for his commitment to the development of Itapúa since the beginning of his administration.

The investment package for Itapúa amounts to USD 41 million, including the TAPE project that will benefit 20 educational institutions in the department. The Secretary of State also confirmed that the Gran Hospital del Sur, another emblematic project, will be delivered in the first quarter of 2025, thus consolidating a historic investment in infrastructure for this region, considered the economic lung of the country.

As regards the rehabilitation of the Graneros del Sur Route, in addition to improving the pavement, it includes the implementation of modern drainage systems, road safety measures and environmental considerations.

Lot 1 extends 35.4 km from Carmen del Paraná to La Paz, while Lot 2 adds another 23 km from La Paz to Capitán Miranda, with an execution period of 12 months per lot.
