MOPC expects to order the start of two major works before the end of the year

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications ( MOPC ) expects to order the start of two mega highway projects in the Paraguayan Chaco before the end of the year. At this time, work is being done to close everything related to the inspection and thus be able to start the work.

The first work corresponds to the third section of the Bi-Oceanic Corridor and the second the Enabling and Maintenance Work of the PY12 route section: Nanawa-Gral Crossing. Bruguez and Accesses.

The third section of the Bioceanic Route includes the improvement and paving of the PY15 route, the Mariscal Estigarribia-Pozo Hondo section and access to Mcal. Estigarribia, in the department of Boquerón.

Once the start order is issued, the awarded companies have up to 6 months to present the final design and then start work on the track.

The construction covers 224.82 km of roads and was awarded in three lots, with a total investment of USD 354,245,764. Its job creation potential is 1,000 people directly.

The new highway will connect with section 1 of the corridor, which is already in operation from Loma Plata to Carmelo Peralta .

On the other hand, the contractor companies in charge of the Enabling and Maintenance of Route PY12 Section: Cruce Nanawa -Gral. Bruguez and Accesos have already been awarded and will be responsible for paving 166 kilometers in a period of 24 months, as well as maintenance for 48 months, including environmental and social mitigation measures.

The works supervision service is currently in the awarding stage. Once awarded, the start order can be given and work on the track will begin immediately.

The project is divided into 4 sections. The first stretch starts at km 2.5 to km 37.4 and includes improving access to Nanawa. Section 2 goes from km 37.4 to km 80.2. It continues with section 3, from km 80.2 to km 122.2 plus the access to the Ninfa community.

Finally, section 4 will cover the last 38 km up to km 160 together with the access to the General Bruguez district.

The investment in this case is around USD 182 million and will benefit all the inhabitants of the Lower Chaco, including indigenous communities in the area.
