MOPC promotes energy diversification by inaugurating its own solar plant

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) is making progress in diversifying Paraguay's energy matrix with the inauguration of its own photovoltaic plant at the headquarters of the Vice Ministry of Mines and Energy (VMME).
This Tuesday, the Minister of the MOPC, Eng. Claudia Centurión, together with the Vice Minister Mauricio Bejarano, inaugurated two solar plants: one of 2 kW and another of 5 kW.
These facilities, equipped with the most modern technology, generate a daily average of 30 kW, which allows them to cover up to 50% of the energy demand of the facilities at certain times.
To put this into context, an average family home consumes approximately 1,000 kW per month. With the current generation of these plants, almost all of this consumption could be covered.
Minister Centurión expressed her gratitude for the efforts made by the VMME to promote activities related to energy, mining and hydrocarbons, and expressed her hope that next year will bring many achievements and the fulfillment of institutional objectives.
Solar energy: a promising source
For his part, Vice Minister Bejarano emphasized that solar energy is one of the most promising sources of generation for Paraguay, thanks to the high levels of solar radiation in the country. “We are not only basing ourselves on the climate, but also on the solar map that reveals the great potential we have. This small plant is an example of how technological innovation can contribute to diversifying our energy matrix,” he said.
Bejarano also highlighted the challenge of diversifying the generation matrix, which is currently 100% renewable and dependent on water resources. “We hope that the legal framework in which we are working with other institutions will allow us to create an environment conducive to investment, so that we can inject electricity generated from sources such as solar energy,” he concluded.
