Managua, February 23, 2021.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Republic of Nicaragua, signed last Friday, February 19, the financing contract for the National Program for Sustainable Electrification and Renewable Energy (PNESER) for an amount of US $ 143.00 million that will contribute to improving the quality of life of families, the development of new productive activities, job creation and poverty reduction in the country.

The signing was carried out giving continuity to the approval of the initiative by the Board of CABEI, held on November 24, 2020. After the execution of the program, the multilateral will contribute to the fact that, for the first time in history, Nicaragua achieves an index of electrification forecast of 99.9 percent for the year 2025, which would be placed, within the countries of the Central American region with a high level of national electricity coverage.

Along these lines, the Executive President of CABEI, Dr. Dante Mossi, said: “with the implementation of the Program in components 1.“ Rural Electrification by Extension of Networks ”and 2.“ Standardization of the Service in Settlements ”, 35,000 will benefit homes in 1,278 rural communities nationwide; and the normalization of the supply of electricity to 79,050 homes in 402 urban settlements ”.

With the execution of the program, it will be possible to reduce non-technical losses in the country's distribution networks by 1.45 percent, supporting the strengthening and sustainability of the electricity sector.

The initiative will be executed by the National Electricity Transmission Company (ENATREL), in 17 departments or regions of Nicaragua.
