Santiago, May 22, 2023.- The extensive coverage of the 5G mobile network in Chile, together with the high adoption of this technology, has allowed Movistar Chile to announce that it has surpassed the first million clients in fifth generation. An adoption that is advancing at a speed never seen before, considering that it took 4G 12 months to reach 500,000 customers, while 5G only four months.

With this milestone, Movistar Chile is also approaching 2023 with a focus on the second phase of the deployment of 5G antennas in the country, to reach more than 1,500 sites.

At Movistar, we are proud of the deployment of 5G technology in the country. In less than 10 months, during 2022, we were able to count on the committed antennas of the first phase of our 5G project, in the 16 regions of the country. Now, we will start the second phase and we will continue with the massification of this technology, through new cell phones with better features and increasingly convenient”, comments Alberto Vásquez, Terminal Manager of Movistar Chile.

5G trend in smartphones

Regarding the adoption of new devices with this technology, the Movistar Chile executive comments that "practically half of our equipment sales are already 5G, and more than 50% of our commercial offer is represented by equipment with this technology, which corresponds to more than 40 models. In this way, towards the end of 2023 we expect that most of the cell phones that we sell in Movistar will be 5G. This is tremendous and excellent news for our clients, since it means that most of them will be able to enjoy and be entertained with the latest generation equipment”.

It should be noted that, during 2022, Movistar Chile added launches of practically all brands to its portfolio of mobile devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S22, Xiaomi 12T and the new iPhone 14, among others, highlighting the mass use of 5G cell phones with mid-range such as the Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G, Vivo Y55, Samsung Galaxy A22 5G and the Motorola G51, and also manufacturers such as Honor.

Finally, in 2022 the company obtained Ookla's Speedtest Award recognition for the fastest mobile network in the country, powered by 5G. Meanwhile, the country stands out among those that most improved their 5G performance in the world, according to 2022 OpenSignal studies.
