Lima, December 27, 2024.- In December, Movistar managed to reach one million customers who chose its fiber optic service, which represents a growth of more than 40% compared to the previous year. The figure of one million with fiber optics includes both new Movistar customers and those who migrated to this technology.
In this way, Telefónica shows that it has always been focused on offering the best customer service.
Technological advances are the result of efforts to expand access to fiber optics throughout the country and with particular speed in 2024. The cities with the greatest deployment were Trujillo, Arequipa, Cusco, Chiclayo, Huancayo and Ica. In addition, a progressive and constant change of technology was made to customers throughout the year.
Advantages of optical fiber
Fiber optics is the best fixed internet technology currently available on the market because it supports large volumes of data with speeds up to 20 times higher than the average of other technologies; it offers symmetry in uploading and downloading information for activities such as video calls and gaming, and stable connectivity for multiple connected devices without loss of quality.
“Fiber optics brings a huge evolution in the quality of connectivity, offering multiple benefits to people and companies. The more than 1 million customers who chose Movistar fiber are already enjoying its advantages, we will continue working to make its access widespread because we believe in the potential and transformative power of this technology for the development of the country,” said Elena Maestre, Executive President of Telefónica del Perú.
This technology not only benefits households, but also boosts key sectors such as education, health and teleworking, improving the productivity of companies, especially SMEs, through digital tools such as e-commerce and management tools. It also promotes the digital transformation of companies through advanced services such as cybersecurity, cloud, business connectivity for small, medium and large companies.
Movistar's efforts to expand access to fiber optics in 23 regions of the country were recognized in 2024 by the Fiber Broadband Association for being the operator with the largest deployment of fiber optics in the region.
According to Osiptel measurements, Telefónica del Perú remains the leader in fiber optic market share with 29.82% in the third quarter of 2024.
In April 2024, the company introduced “Movistar TV Fibra”, which offers a new internet-based entertainment experience that integrates live television, as well as advanced features typical of 100% digital TV, in addition to integrated access to streaming video platforms on the same decoder.
