MSI signs 2nd distributor, looks for more

Bnamericas
Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Micro Star International (MSI) is gearing up for an aggressive expansion into the Brazilian market, with plans to increase its distributor network from just one partner today, to between six and nine by year-end, Brazilian tech news agency IT Web reported. This week the company signed its second Brazilian partnership with SB Solutions. The first partnership is with Digitat. "Our goal is to have a 10% market share of the [Brazilian] motherboard market in 2003, which corresponds to 28,000 sales. In order to meet this target, we need ample coverage of national territory," SB commercial manager Paulo Blanco said. MSI also wants to seal 4-5 partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) this year, reflecting its strategy to multiply its sales channel network. Additionally, MSI may elect to outsource some of its manufacturing to a Brazilian OEM. Established in 1986, MSI manufactures a wide array of computing hardware and accessories, and in 2002 billed US$1.14bn worldwide.
