More and more Peruvians are importing technological communication devices, such as mobile phones, drones, smart watches, among others.

In 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) registered nearly 28 thousand requests for permits for the entry of telecommunications equipment into the country. According to data reported by the General Directorate of Communications Programs and Projects, this figure represents an increase of 4% compared to 2023.

The total number of authorizations granted last year amounted to 27,988, of which 504 correspond to temporary internments and 27,484 to permanent internments, which shows a sustained trend towards technological modernization in the country.

“The import permit guarantees that telecommunications equipment and devices entering the national territory comply with current legislation,” said the Deputy Minister of Communications, Carla Sosa Vela. She also highlighted that the majority of requests are for mobile devices, which contributes to technological renewal and the improvement of digital connectivity in the country.

This increase reflects the growing interest of citizens in staying at the forefront of technology, as well as the MTC's commitment to facilitate a fast and secure process for the importation of equipment.
