MTC spends US$929mn on infra

Peru's transport and communications ministry (MTC) has spent 3.02bn soles (US$929mn) during President Alejandro Toledo's administration on infrastructure projects, of which 75.4% went on roadworks, the MTC announced. Some 1,081km of highways have been built in the period, the MTC said, with some of the most significant roads including the Imperial-Izcuchaca, Olmos-Corral Quemado, Matachico-Huancayo, Leymebamba-Chachapoyas, Cajamarca-Baños del Inca, Descanso-Sicuani highways. A further 136mn soles has been spent on building 20 road bridges, it added. Also, some 220mn soles of maintenance work on 8,408km of the national network and 664km of the departmental network was carried out, the MTC said. President Toledo took office in July 2001.
