Namibia, CVG sign mining cooperation

Namibia's mines and energy minister Nicky Iyambo has signed a mining cooperation agreement with officials from Venezuela's heavy industries holding company CVG while on a visit to the state company's headquarters in Caracas. In a statement, CVG said the accord is based on Namibia's experience in diamond and gold mining, activities of high interest to CVG given the Guayana region's mineral wealth. The company presented its strategic projects and exchanged information with Iyambo on other integration possibilities. The minister congratulated CVG on its model for promoting development in Guayana in which it seeks to converge industry, energy and quality of life into a single focus. The two parties are considering a follow-up CVG technical mission to Namibia. Among other holdings, CVG controls Venezuela's state-owned, vertically integrated aluminum complex formed by Alcasa, Carbonorca, Bauxilum and Venalum.
