National Digital Authority will supervise public and private entities in the field of technologies

In order to regulate the coordination of actions related to the public administration and private entities in the field of Information and Communication Technologies - known as ICTs-, the parliamentarians of the Economy Commission approved most of the project's articles of the National Digital Authority Law.

On this issue, the president of that legislative work table, Deputy Margarita Escobar (ARENA), assured that it seeks to have opinion and observations to strengthen its content. "We are all walking in the same direction, the deputies, civil society, government, companies and academia," said the parliamentarian.

In accordance with the legal framework in formation, the National Authority will be the competent entity to apply the norms contained in international treaties in force in El Salvador on technology, laws that govern this matter, universal access to the internet, protection of personal data, electronic commerce, electronic signature, cybersecurity and other related.

In this context, Deputy Damián Alegría (FMLN) said that this formulation is “promoting the development of the digitization of the government, the State, the country; I believe that it is important that a National Digital Authority exists and is created through a legislative decree that gives it permanence in the long term, since the development of the country also requires a long-term strategy ”.

Some of the attributions delegated by the parliamentarians to this entity is the promotion and elaboration of the National Policy for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies, supervision and effective application of the plans, projects, programs and in general, the agenda of the obligated subjects regarding the use of ICTs.

As well as supervising and monitoring the modernization demands of the obligated subjects linked to the use of technology, promoting the use of ICTs and seeking timely access for all citizens through the application of computer networks of national coverage to promote research, innovation and development of human talent, among others.
